Kevin Rose's fake Pownce account.
Pownce has the unique feature where if a friend request is not accepted the person sending the request may still receive all public notes, links and events sent by the person being invited into the friend relationship. In Pownce this is referred to as being a 'fan'. Being a fan is a one sided relationship whereby I can see public posts made by users I'm a fan of but those users will never see anything I can send out, at least on their pages.
Kevin Rose currently has 111 friends and 6757 fans. That means that a good percentage of Pownce users are able to receive public posts made by Kevin Rose, but there are a very narrow subset of users that he can receive files or private messages from.
Now if I were one of the founders of a social networking site I would want to be able to experience the full range of interactions possible with the software. I doubt Kevin is any different, and I suspect that he has been tinkering around with accounts that would allow him to see what is going on with the site. If Kevin does have such an account we should be able to figure it out. You know. As a group exercise kind of thing.
I am almost 100% sure that Fake Kevin Rose is not the actual Kevin Rose, mostly because of the shabbiness of his posts.
I am also almost also 100% sure that Ceiling Cat is not Kevin Rose because for whatever reason I don't remember being Kevin Rose.
So who is the number one contender at this point? If you have ever received an error message on Pownce you have seen the seen a weird looking fish monster who is known as Admiral Ackbar. Admiral Ackbar was instrumental in the defeat of the Imperial forces at the Battle of Endor. (If this reference doesn't ring a bell then you need to Google his name).
Last night Pownce was buzzing about the impending updates to Kevin's other site, http://Digg.com. When the new site launched and there was no picture section it disappointed many users who have been clamoring for such a feature. Amidst the chaos one man, err fish, was able to reassure the teeming masses that the feature would be released in October. For whatever reason he seemed pretty fucking confidant. And earlier today Admiral Ackbar had a cogent analysis of retards on Pownce who reply with @username because they must think that they are on Twitter.
I may be right and I may be wrong. Either way, Admiral Ackbar still kicks ass.
Your comments, rampant speculation and rumor mongering is highly encouraged.
