Went to a screening of "The Golden Compass" last night.

The effects were great. Almost every scene had a 3D animal (aka demon) in it. And I will say that the bear fight was "jaw-dropping."

However, the story wasn’t explained well at all. There are lots of groups of people (witches, Gyptians, Gobblers, Eskimos, etc.) that just kind of show up and battle to the death and you don’t know why.

Movie series like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter do a much better job explaining the fictional world that the story takes place in.

I hate when Hollywood forgoes the art of storytelling for things like computer generated polar bears with armor.

Well... you have to know that the story writer meant to express that God is not real... Then things make sense... Just like if you sat through Narnia knowing that the story was meant to tell the tale of christian overcoming and christ, you really get certain parts that seem really smart...
