RECOMMENDATIONS needed for a GREAT FORUMS/message board software or hosted website. any brilliant web 2.o style forums - whether it's free or costs or whatever. looking for something add free and most importantly SPAM FREE!
we've used PHPBB and it we got spammed and hacked to death.
help us!

    If you want it on the cheap, Vanilla is really nice. Super-plain, but also quite powerful. http://getvanilla.com/

    forgot to add: twit.tv uses Vanilla. Pretty big community there.

    Try using a http://www.ning.com network. It's very easy to use and seems pretty clean of spam. In addition to discussion boards you can have user groups, post videos, pics, etc.

    one problem with ning is it is considered a social network and is blocked by most companies/schools that block facebook, myspace, etc.

    If this might be a concern for you, be warned.

    I'm backing the first guy, vanilla is pretty wicked. Very basic at the start but there are hundreds of premade addons. and you can install all of them very easily.

    SMF or simple machines forum is pretty good
