This is insane... I have never seen someone do this sort of attack with impunity at this scale. I have sat at both sides Black and White. This is so blatent, its great that it has been brought to light and done so, so well. I hope this is a good step to document the actions that such agencies have taken... Ultimately Rev3 pwned.. :)

I've already read it and am at a loss for words really, MediaDefender thinks they are above the law apparently?

You have grounds for one hell of a lawsuit, not to mention a direct confession. :P

Hooray for you guys working with the FBI, hopefully MediaSentry will actually have to pony up for all its flagrant hypocrisy.

Wonderful read and I hope you can find justice for their actions. If not take them to Judge Judy.

for some reason, I have a feeling that a DDoS will be redirected towards MD, from multiple parts of the world. 9Gb bandwidth won't be enough.

hmm, sadly this probably won't make it out to the big media companies, as they're all employed by the companies MD has as clients. You need to get some big guys on your end to help resolve this BillG, Woz, Jobs, etc. Imagine if they tried this sh1t on Microsoft, Red Hat uses BT have they gone after them yet??

This is messed up. Something should seriously be done to them.

Thanks for the link. This was a very interesting read and companies like Media Defender need to be held accountable when they pull crap like this, intentional or not.

Good post. I'm kinda floored that there is a business whose model is based upon committing blatantly illegal acts against those "thought" to be committing illegal acts. The Wild Wild West isn't dead, after all, still got bounty-hunting vigilantes. Or would they be paid assassins?

Anyhow, now's a good opportunity for some enterprising hardware hackers to get on this and improve network safeguards to handle this sort of thing, right?

And I hope you sue their knickers off.

Unbelievable, I hope they end up at least paying damages and some sort of a fine.

The only thing it doesn't say is what you're doing about it. Sounds like under CA law you have every right to sue the pants off them... so....??????? are you?????? doing in anything about it after that huge amazing story? If not it will happen to a hospital or other emergency service.

You guys seriously need to pursue this. Piracy isn't right, but neither is what MediaDefender is doing (even if you're only speaking strictly legally). Someone needs to stand up and say that two wrongs don't make a right. I mean, what does this say to other organizations who use BitTorrent legally, like Blizzard, Vuze, or BitTorrent.com (who SELLS television shows!). MediaDefender shouldn't be allowed to illegally threaten your business model. When you come right down to it, the majority of BitTorrent is likely pirated, but to borrow a phrase, you don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
