Have you ever donated to a political campaign? If so, who and how much (if you're comfortable in disclosing)? If not, why?
I am considering donating to Obama's campaign, but not sure how much I can afford.

In Australia donations by individuals to political parties is completely unheard of, it just isn't done. I'm not trying to discourage you, I would vote for Obama myself if I could, but donating your hard earned cash to help a political party gain power is just plain wrong IMHO.

I too am considering a donation to Obama's campaign. I've never felt drawn to do so, and this would be a first. But, I also had never even bothered voting in a primary, but drove down to my old polling place just to try to help get him as the Democratic nominee.
He is a change we need. Period.

I donate money to the Libertarian Party every two years. I have donated $100 so far to Bob Barr for President

I have never donated to a candidate not because, I do not care but because of financial reasons. This year, I am giving my vote to Mr. Obama I think he'll appreciate that more.

I admire you for even considering a money donation at this time in our lame-duck economy. Truth is, Julie, Obama is rolling in money right now. My rule-of-thumb is if you have to ask or think about it for too long, it's probably not a good idea. Much better resources you can give to the brilliant Obama campaign, I believe, would be your time and considerable talents and charisma. Canvassing, volunteer and locl campaign HQ, neighborhood parties...there's just so much to do.
You might end up sneaking in some social network campaigning!

Rumblestrip Me too! I noticed Barr accepted PayPal and I had some cash in there that I hadn't touched in years so I went ahead and gave the campaign $50.

I do not because once they get your name, that's it. They will hound you constantly. My Dad gets constant calls from the GOP and my girlfriend's Mom gets constant calls and cards from the DNC.
I contribute by voting.

Most campaigns aren't hurting for money. You're time may be more valuable. Encouraging people to vote and pointing them to legitimate information so that they can make an educated decision is the way to go in my opinion.
-
Your time is more valuable to them.

Yes. Do it!

Yes. I've given both to Obama/Biden and the DNC directly.
