    It was awhile ago, but someone... Sony maybe?... marketed a device called the "bone-fone" which you wore around the neck. The sound was transmitted through your bones to the skull and the ears.

    p.s. This is also why our voices sound so foreign to us when we hear them on a recording. We hear our own voices through our bones as much as through our ears, ergo, we hear ourselves differently than others hear us. When I hear myself, I'm sure I sound like James Earl Jones, but when I hear myself on a recording it is reminiscent of Peewee Herman.

    These have been around for a while - I did the sydney harbour bridge climb and they use these. Pretty meat, but is a bit on the fuzzy side.
